Item 3
NA3 Week of July 6th - We hope everyone down south had a great Fourth of July over the weekend. We hope you will visit our website, blog or EBay listings for a very large selection of nearly 200 pieces of Russian, American, Canadian and English sterling silver including Niello, Fina, Olmstead & Hurdman, Dominick & Haff, Heirloom, Wallace, J.E. Ellis, E. Caldwell, Towle, Gorham and Reed & Barton. Illustrated to the left: A fine Olmstead & Hurdman sterling silver ladle, circa 1890. Charles Olmstead was born Sept. 5, 1867 in the vicinity of Hull, Quebec. He apprenticed at the shop of Addison’s jewelers on Sparks Street, Ottawa, where he worked until he established his own watch repair and jewelry store at 97 Sparks Street in 1888. Hallmarked Olmstead & Hurdman Sterling. About 1895 Olmsted and William G. Hurdman became partners, locating their business at 67 Sparks Street. As silversmiths, they had a silver mark and during this period watches marked with their names were sold. The touch mark was later acquired by Birks. The only reference we can find for Olmstead & Hurdman are three acquisitions donated to the National Gallery by Birks in 1979. A rare and beautiful early Canadian piece. Weight: 8.1 grams. Dimensions: 7" long; the bowl is 2 3/4" x 2 1/3". Condition: lovely with no scratches, damage or repair.

Item 4
NA4 A very nice group of four American Civil War letters. This group of letters was written by a soldier in the Union army, who was in the Battle of Gettysburg, home to his family in 1863. Included in his accounts to his family is a description of some of the events at the Battle of Gettysburg including the following: “Dear Mother, As this is the firs word I have got from home the night before the battle of Gettysburg you may judge how glad I am to get it. I went into that fight confident that I should come out safe and I tell you what I fought hard but the Johnnys caught me and 10 of my company and Lieut Dunkle had a pretty hard time of it so the next time I am marked missing you may set me down as killed or badly wounded so that is the only way they will get me again …” These letters give a detailed and personal account of events during the war in 1863 including a march to Richmond from Gettysburg down the Shenandoah Valley, camp life, fights, food, confrontations with enemy soldiers and antagonistic townspeople and other aspects of soldier life.

Item 5
NA5 A very nice mid-19th century ambrotype photo of a man and a woman. We think the sitters are either members of the Baird family (that owned the Baldwin Locomotive company in Philadelphia in the 19th century) or the Harding family that was related to them, as this photo comes from a collection of Baird family pieces. We understand that these photos are in a Presidential case with stars and a shield and appears to be bakelite . The photos are in lovely condition and the case is in truly fantastic crisp condition. The case measures about 6 1/2" x 4" (opened). This photograph is part of a collection consisting of documents, receipts, photographs, cabinet cards, daguerreotypes, tin types and other related material relating to the Baird family of Philadelphia (who owned Baldwin Locomotive in the late 19th century) and several other related families including the Harding family.
