Illustrated

A beautiful 19th century 14k solid gold and rolled gold Victorian cameo brooch and chain.  The cameo is a lovely banded agate – possibly depicting Mercury.  The chain detaches so that the brooch can be worn alone.  A superb high Victorian piece, we would say around the 1860s or 1870s.  The chain measures about 20″ in length.  The brooch measures about 1 1/2″ in diameter.  14k rolled gold pendant with 14k solid gold chainThe solid 14k gold chain weighs 25 grams.  The pendant and swags weigh about 27.9 grams in total.

A Fine American Sterling Silver Tea/Coffee Set

Illustrated

A fine c. 1890s sterling silver tea and coffee service.  Offered are three pieces: tea pot, coffee pot and large sugar pot.  Exceptionally detailed engraved floral and geometric designs.  Our photos do not do justice to this set which is exquisite in person and honestly one of the nicest sets we’ve seen in a long time.  The set is marked sterling and BSC within a square (see photos) for the Barbour Silver Company of Wallingford Connecticut.  Barbour Silver Company was formed in 1892 and became one of the first silver firms to be acquired by International Silver Company of Meriden Connecticut in 1898.  This set was originally acquired by the American Baird family, who lived in Philadelphia, from John Wannamaker (jewelers and silversmiths in Philadelphia, New York, London and Paris).  Sold with the original retailer’s bag.  Dimenstions: coffee pot measures about 9 1/2″ in height, the tea pot measures about 8″ in height and the sugar pot measures about 3 1/2″ in height.  Composition: sterling silver.  Weight: 1,700 grams / 1.7 kilos / about 55 ounces of silver.  Condition: the condition of this set is exceptional – the lids close tightly, I had to scour the set to find a couple trivial tiny marks on the base of the teapot.  A superb, bright and impressive set.  Absolutely lovely and bright in person.

We hope you will visit our website and EBay listings for a large selection of about 300 pieces of Russian, American, Canadian and English sterling silver including Niello, Fina, Olmstead & Hurdman, Dominick & Haff, Heirloom, Birks, Wallace, J.E. Olmstead & Hurdman Canadian Sterling Silver Ladle – c. 1890

new silver 7

Illustrated

A fine Olmstead & Hurdman sterling silver ladle, circa 1890. Charles Olmstead was born Sept. 5, 1867 in the vicinity of Hull, Quebec. He apprenticed at the shop of Addison’s jewelers on Sparks Street, Ottawa, where he worked until he established his own watch repair and jewelry store at 97 Sparks Street in 1888. Hallmarked Olmstead & Hurdman Sterling. About 1895 Olmsted and William G. Hurdman became partners, locating their business at 67 Sparks Street. As silversmiths, they had a silver mark and during this period watches marked with their names were sold. The touch mark was later acquired by Birks. The only reference we can find for Olmstead & Hurdman are three acquisitions donated to the National Gallery by Birks in 1979. A rare and beautiful early Canadian piece. Weight: 8.1 grams. Dimensions: 7″ long; the bowl is 2 3/4″ x 2 1/3″. Condition: lovely with no scratches, damage or repair.

We hope you will visit our website or EBay listings for a new large selection of nearly 200 pieces of Russian, American, Canadian and English sterling silver including Niello, Fina, Olmstead & Hurdman, Dominick & Haff, Heirloom, Wallace, J.E. Ellis, E. Caldwell, Towle, Gorham and Reed & Barton from several private Toronto, Vancouver and American collections.
